Just to let you know that The Butchers Arms will not be serving food next week, it will however be open for drinks in the evenings. Normal food service will be served from lunchtime Sat 27th January. We would like to buy a TV for the games room, this is to hopefully be of use [...]

The Butchers Arms will be open Tuesday till Sunday evenings as usual but closed at lunch times during the week. Saturday and Sundays we will be open from 12 noon.

Normal business will resume on Saturday 10th of March.

A wine tasting on Friday the 17th Feb at 7.30pm.

Sat 24th Feb Chip out dominoes at 9pm ( proceeds to the fire escape )

A grant has been applied for of £500 which would be helpful towards the fire escape.
The Social Enterprise Awards is a body of people who get together to decide on who should receive an amount of money to help their community / enterprise.
This awards meeting takes place on Monday 5th March at Newton Rigg College, Penrith, Cumbria.
I will inform you of the outcome.

The Damson Gin competition on Boxing Day raised £128, this has paid for a oak bookcase at a cost of £120.
Sat 21st Jan dominoes raised £37.50p ( proceeds towards the fire escape )
A quiz on Sat 4th Feb raised £71, proceeds  also to the fire escape.

Regional finalists will be declared for each category in each region. They will then be judged and regional winners announced. Each region boasts its own judging panel, chaired by the Countryside Alliance’s regional directors. The overall Champions are chosen by a special panel which is chaired by Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Alice Barnard and also includes celebrated cook, author and countrywoman Clarissa Dickson Wright, the Daily Telegraph’s Philip Johnston, Farmers Guardian Editor Emma Penny and Hunter Boot’s Chris Dewbury.

You never know who will be dropping in to The Butchers Arms. Earlier this year we welcomed our Prime Minister, David Cameron, this Christmas there was another VIP on everybody’s minds. Santa Claus!

There were good flying conditions on Christmas Eve in the Lyvennet Valley. Santa Claus touched down near the Village Hall and pulled up, to the great delight of all gathered, in front of our community pub in his traditional one-horse open sleigh. There was a rapturous chorus of Jingle Bells to greet him and with a hearty “Ho-ho-ho” and a merry wave he swept a bulging sack of gifts over his shoulder and went inside to find out who had been naughty and nice.

The pub was packed! Children’s party food was laid out and Santa conversed and sang with the children. They had all been good this year and he’d clearly read their letters to him because he knew exactly what everyone had asked for. Everyone had a great time.

Has anyone got a free standing bookcase that they no longer require ?

The dimensions are 4ft high x4ft long & 18″ wide. Three or four shelves would be best.

It could be put to great use to the right of the internal door so that papers/ leaflets could be arranged
on it.
There is a small table at the moment but it is a little cluttered.

It would be good to use some of the shelving also to have a book & dvd exchange.

If any of you ordered any clothing at the Grand Opening on Sat 27th August, there is a slight delay as it was such large order.However another week should see all items embroidered. I will keep you up to date when items can be collected,some will be posted as you arranged.

We are in the process of sorting a smoking shelter, especially with our British weather the way it is !!

A grant has been applied for the shop ( £25,000 ) of which we should hear if we’re in the running early November. It is the Village SOS fund.

A Damson Gin & Sloe Gin competition will be held at the pub on Boxing Day at 7pm.

A prize for the winner of each class.

If you haven’t made it before, recipes are on line or if you like I can email you one. ( ideally made from now, or when the fruit is available )

Commemorative glasses are still available from the pub ( samples on the bar )

Photos of the Grand Opening are on a rolling program on the computer in the games room.

If you do visit the pub please sign the visitors book at the entrance.
